The Measure

What is the measure of a man?

A boy,
With physical strength,
he'll be sturdy and strong.
With emotional strength,
he shall carry on.
With true friends,
he'll go where no one has gone.
With belief in his dreams,
how can he go wrong?

And a boy,
With desire to achieve,
his will to win shall stay.
With confidence in himself,
it'll seem as if he owns the day.
With a love for life,
nothing shall stand in his way.
With all of the above,
inside him a man shall lay.

Yet a man,
With no strengths or friends,
is nothing more than a pain.
With no desires or dreams,
because he thinks they're insane.
With no confidence or love,
is just a little too plain.
With none of these,
they are all the same.

They are all men, but not the one of them a "man".
For age alone, does not make a "man".
